New Collage Logo for 2012

Here it is….Collage’s brand new logo!  We wanted to do something BIG to celebrate our 20th year in business, so we are kicking it off with a ‘fresh face’ and have much more to come throughout the year!

A lot of thought went into our new logo, including not changing it at all.  Last June, I asked our clients to select between our old logo and a slightly different version of the one above and the results were split right down the middle!  I struggled with changing our logo because we have advertised it and promoted it constantly for the last 20 years.  Why mess with a good thing?

I’ll tell you why we changed the logo.  Fashion is constantly changing and Collage has been changing right along with it, constantly trying new things.  Some we stuck with, some we didn’t.  But what always ‘stuck’ for us was women’s fashion. That is certainly our strong suite and our logo needed to show we are fashion forward.  So we chose a font that resembled the font that In Style Magazine uses on their cover.

Next we wanted to make sure we paid tribute to the past twenty years that got us to where we are today.  Since we let go of the font, we wanted to hold onto the mannequin that was formerly on the left side of the logo.  Our brilliant designer, Stephanie True Moss of True Moss Communications in Atlanta, got the idea to pull the mannequin in between the two ‘ll’s in ‘Collage’ and reversed out the image.  What happened was pure magic.  From a distance you see the ‘ll’s clearly but as you get closer you see the mannequin.  It’s the same concept as the FedEx logo that contains an arrow, but most people never ‘see’ it.  But subliminally they do.  Can you see the arrow?

Last, the words ‘designer consignment’ needed to stand out AND we wanted to include the recycling/going green aspect of our business so the lime green in our logo symbolizes our ‘green’ business and helps emphasize what we do, which is to sell designer apparel on consignment.

It has been a fun and grueling exercise, to say the least, for the last 8 months as we have created a new brand for Collage and we are so excited to continue to update other areas inside our stores over the next 12 months.  We hope you like what you see and we would love to hear your suggestions as we chart our next 20 years together!

Are Your Designer Jeans Real?

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

You already know about fake designer handbags, but did you know that certain designer JEANS may not be the brand you think they are? For example, let’s examine Seven jeans.

Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia where a representative of 7 For All Mankind wrote the following in a comment on the discussion page:

“The 7 For All Mankind brand has strong recognition worldwide and is particularly well known among celebrities and fashion-conscious denim consumers. The 7 For All Mankind logo consists of a large, brushstroke-style numeral 7 with the words “for all mankind” written across it in a smaller, stylized script. This logo has traditionally been found on the inside back waistband of 7 For All Mankind’s denim products as well as sewn on to the back pocket. The 7 For All Mankind logo appears in various locations on other products such as footwear and handbags. In some European markets, the logo features a stylized pair of jeans as the background element rather than the numeral 7. 7 For All Mankind is sometimes mis-associated with the European-based denim brand “Seven7.” Seven7 entered the U.S. fashion denim market shortly after 7 For All Mankind, who subsequently challenged Seven7′s trademark in court. The case was eventually settled under confidential terms.” – Wikipedia

So how can you tell which jeans are the real thing?

7 For All Mankind Jeans labelFirst, the label will say ’7 For All Mankind’ on the ‘real’ brand and the imitations will simply say ‘Seven 7′ or ‘Seven’. Second, (this one is interesting) look at the pockets on the inside of your jeans. The real brand will have a striped texture and the imitation will be plain. Third, this one is a little harder to tell unless you have both jeans side-by-side to compare. The fading is more gradual on the real thing and when we compared them at COLLAGE, the imitation brand did have a sharper ‘edge’ to the fading. Lastly, check your inside tags. The 7 For All Mankind jeans have 3 tags and the innermost tag when lifted reveals a metallic silver thread running horizontally and lists the serial number underneath. Yes, now your JEANS have serial numbers! The imitation 7 jeans have only one tag and no silver thread and no serial number. Interesting stuff!
